VODAFONE HOLDS BLOOD DONATION DRIVE

Doha, 08 December 2020: In response to Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) calls for blood donation, Vodafone held a blood donation drive at its headquarters located at the Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP).

Vodafone employees and those of other companies operating out of QSTP showed their support for the drive that was held using stringent safety and infection control measures.

The Blood Donor Centre have stepped up precautionary measures to ensure that every blood donation is safe during the pandemic to include mandatory pre- screening before entering the blood donation sites and regular cleaning and disinfection of all surfaces and equipment.

A fully equipped HMC mobile blood donation unit along with a team of outstanding medical professionals assessed each individual’s eligibility for blood donation, making the process of blood donation for the donors a gratifying experience.

“This year especially, I’d like to thank each person who donated their blood at the Vodafone Blood Donation Drive. Blood donors do an amazing thing when they give blood. Without blood donors, many patients simply would not be alive today. Empowering employees to do good for the community is one of our core beliefs at Vodafone and hope that this drive has raised awareness for how important blood donation is,” said Mr. Khames Al-Naimi, Chief Human Resources Officer Vodafone Qatar.

The Blood Donor Unit at HMC is always in need of supplies of blood, particularly from rare blood groups, and urgently need donations to meet demand. When you donate blood the red blood cells are used for surgery, kidney dialysis and to treat anaemia. Plasma is used to treat burn victims and trauma patients and platelets are used for surgery, and to treat leukaemia and other forms of cancer.
