Doha, 09 November 2020: Vodafone Qatar is supporting an innovative new Qatari start-up, Loop Mobility, with the Internet of Things (IoT) to power its smart scooter sharing service. The Company tailor-made the IoT solution to fit Loop’s requirements for rolling out hundreds of electric scooters in Doha that are available for use by anyone.

Users can enjoy a ride by simply finding a Loop e-Scooter near them in real-time via the Loop mobile app, and after their journey, park it in a safe place. Available currently in West Bay and the Corniche, Loop will help to improve access to public transport by solving Doha’s first- and last-mile challenge.

Preinstalled Vodafone IoT SIM cards ensure that Loop is constantly connected with its fleet of over 500 smart scooters via a web based dashboard that lets the Loop team track their electric scooters, monitor their condition and batteries, and bring them back to the docking station to be ready for the next ride. At the heart of the service is the Vodafone Connectivity Platform; a secure self-service platform that simplifies IoT management, giving Loop full visibility and control of their IoT connected scooters.

Commenting on the partnership with Loop Mobility, Vodafone Qatar Business Services Director, Mahday Saad Al-Hebabi, said: “Vodafone Qatar is delighted to be supporting a Qatari start-up with our advanced IoT services and leading expertise. It’s another example of how Vodafone can help the country’s tech innovators achieve success in a digital world. This partnership with Loop Mobility will help Qatar to adopt intelligent transport innovations and the future of urban mobility looks very promising.”

IoT will play a vital role in smart cities, especially smart transport, enabling autonomous vehicles and other connected solutions that lower emissions and improve efficiency – goals aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030.

Loop’s Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed Al Mohannadi, said: “We want to bring the mobility revolution to Qatar’s market and witness our green method of transport moving people all across the city. Loop could not be doing this without the strong and reliable connectivity solutions and expertise of Vodafone Qatar. The Vodafone team built the IoT service to our very specific needs and found a digital solution to every challenge. We hope our e-Scooters will attract people to use this service to help cut down emissions and protect our environment.”

Secure and scalable, Vodafone IoT solutions can create sustainable, long-term, competitive advantages for businesses, to create new connected products or services, and digitise and optimise their operations. 5G technology will drive the adaptation of IoT, with its increased bandwidth to connect even more devices and transmit data in real-time.
