Vodafone Qatar Launches 128-Bit Encrypted Secure Credit Card Payment System
02 May 2011: Reinforcing its position as one of the leading online retailers in Qatar, Vodafone Qatar today launched its exclusive, 128-bit encrypted Vodafone Secure Credit Card Payment system in conjunction with Qatar National Bank, MasterCard SecureCode and Verified by Visa. The new system takes customers to a whole new level of security when it comes to conducting credit card transactions online, be it buying a new handset on a computer or re-loading a number with a Red plan on a handset.
In the past, you could buy online just by providing details available right on your card. With Vodafone's new system, customers of participating banks will enter that same information onto the site, but then you're taken automatically to a page where the card-issuing bank requests a secret password that only you know. You enter the word, and then you're taken back to Vodafone's site and informed of the successful transaction.
The whole process adds only a few seconds to each transaction, but the peace of mind that comes with it means customers can breathe a little bit easier when conducting transactions online.
"We're always working with banks, credit card companies, and the Qatar Central Bank to find ways to ensure our customers' safety when buying online," said Geoff Engel, Head of Online at Vodafone Qatar. "Now whenever customers see the Vodafone Secure Credit Card Payment logo, they immediately know that this internet transaction can be protected with similar levels of strong authentication that people enjoy today with chip-and-PIN card transactions."
To find out more about how you can protect your credit cards from being used for fraudulent transactions online, contact your bank and ask about Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode.
