Vodafone Money Transfer Wins Global Mobile Award
1 March 2011: Vodafone Qatar Money Transfer (VMT) service, combined with the wider Vodafone family's Mobile Money Transfer services, has won the prestigious Mobile Money for the Unbanked Award at this year's Global Mobile Awards.
The Global Mobile Awards is the most highly sought after awards in the global communications industry. Established in 1996, the Awards attract entries from across the world and are judged by a panel of independent, highly respected experts. The award ceremony is part of the GSMA Mobile World Congress, held annually in Barcelona.
Even though Vodafone Qatar's Money Transfer service was launched only recently, Vodafone Group's other world subsidiaries and joint ventures have been offering mobile transfer services for years. The panel of judges' comments reflected on this ongoing success: "...the success story continues. This solution is enhanced further with the addition of new features and territories. It is winning ground in a way seldom seen in the mobile industry and is a true and sustained success story."
"Vodafone Qatar are honoured and delighted to have been awarded such a prestigious prize," said John Tombleson, Acting CEO of Vodafone Qatar.
"Thousands of customers in Qatar have been using this innovative service to send money back home, and this award recognises the world of difference we have made for all the people in the country," continued John Tombleson.
Vodafone Qatar's Money Transfer service was introduced in November 2010, allowing customers in Qatar to send funds directly from their mobile phones to international destinations. The service is safe, simple, quick and the most convenient way to send money to family and loved ones overseas. Fees are also highly competitive with local money transfer houses. Currently, users can send money to the Philippines, with more countries to be introduced in the future.
