The Board of Vodafone Group Plc has allocated QR 1,000,000 as initial funding to be used for direct grant giving by Vodafone Qatar Foundation.
The Vodafone Qatar Foundation will "make a world of difference for people in Qatar" by doing a lot of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities and fundraising, in line with Vodafone's goal of being a responsible business and investing in the communities in which they live and work.
The first local Qatar based fundraiser will be Vodafone's Star numbers auction on the 1st of March in which Vodafone hopes to raise over 15 million Qatari Riyals for charity use by the Foundation
The Vodafone Group Foundation was established in 2002, and since then has raised over £125 million (QR 625 million). Vodafone has strict guidelines with disciplines and structures in place ensuring complete transparency for where money raised has gone.
Vodafone Group Foundation is proud to have brought the benefits of mobile to some of the world's most pressing problems. Examples include partnering with the United Nations to support the World Food Programme's emergency ICT response and funding an award winning disease surveillance programme- now used to track diseases in 22 African countries.
Like other OpCo Foundations, Vodafone Qatar will also establish the ‘World of Difference' Programme. This is a really innovative programme that pays people a year's salary to take time off work to focus their time fully on making a positive impact in their community.
Vodafone Qatar will announce more on its Foundation plans in due course.
