Businessman Of The Year Award For Vodafone Qatar’s Late Ceo Grahame Maher
2 December 2010: Vodafone Qatar CEO Grahame Maher, who passed away in November, was honored at the Arabian Business Achievement Awards by being named ‘Businessman of the Year' for his outstanding personal contribution to both Vodafone Qatar and the country's business development.
Praising Grahame Maher and describing his leadership as "an inspiration to company's employees and indeed everyone who came across him", the judges presented the posthumous award to Grahame's wife Jenny during the ceremony at the Armani Hotel in Dubai.
Such was the positive energy and exceptional reputation enjoyed by Grahame Maher that the Arabian Business Awards' judges decided 2010 would be the perfect occasion to present the first ever posthumous award in the event's 10-year history.
"Our judges felt that since founding the company in May 2008, Grahame's contribution to Vodafone Qatar's staggering growth and success was exceptional. As a business leader, there was arguably nobody better in the region. But far more than that, Grahame developed a reputation for being honest and fair. His leadership was an inspiration to the company's employees and indeed everyone in the industry who came across him," said award judge and Editorial Director at ITP, Mr. Anil Bhoyrul
"Being named ‘Businessman of the Year' amongst all the distinguished business leaders in the Middle East is a tribute to Grahame's remarkable achievements over many years," says Vodafone Qatar Acting CEO John Tombleson. "We are extremely proud to have known Grahame, he was an inspiration to us all."
The Arabian Business Awards are the most prestigious awards ceremony on the business calendar, having been attended in recent years by HRH King Abdullah II of Jordan, HRH King Mohammed VI of Morocco, HRH Prince Awaleed and HH Sheikh Mohammed, Ruler of Dubai.
