This agreement applies to how you use your Vodafone Money Account along with our general terms and conditions. These are both available in any Vodafone store, or on our website. By using your Vodafone Money Account, you are agreeing to these terms, so please take the time to read them.
In this agreement, when we talk about Vodafone, we or us, we mean Vodafone Qatar QSC. When we talk about you, we mean you – the customer.
| “Airtime” | the balance you have on your SIM card for using other Vodafone products and services. |
| “Bank account” | the bank account in Qatar that you can register to use as your Vodafone Money Account. |
| “Charges” | the charges you have to pay us for using your Vodafone Money Account– you can find a list of our current charges at any Cash Outlet, Sign-Up Outlet or on our website. |
| “Customer” | you and every other person who holds a Vodafone Money Account. |
| “Eligible destination” | a country that you can send money to using VMT. (You can find a list of current eligible destinations on our website.) |
| “Equipment” | your mobile phone and SIM card and any other device that allows you to make a transaction using your Vodafone Money Account. |
| “Mobile Plan” | the Vodafone Freedom or Red pricing plans which allow you to use our other Vodafone mobile voice and data services, according to our general terms and conditions. |
| “Network” | the mobile telecommunications network we operate in Qatar. |
| “PIN” | is short for personal identification number – this is the secret code you choose to restrict access to your Vodafone Money Account. |
| “SIM card” | is short for subscriber identity module card – this is the small card inserted into your mobile phone that contains information to let you access your Vodafone Money Account and our other products and services. |
| “SMS” | is short for short message service – this is a short text message sent to your mobile phone. |
| “Transaction” | any of the transactions listed in clause 2. |
| “Transaction limits” | the highest value amount you can send using your Vodafone Money Account in each transaction, in each day or in each month. You can find a list of the current transaction limits at any Vodafone store, or on the website. |
| “instructions” | instructions you have given using your Vodafone Money Account to make a transaction. |
| “VMT” | Vodafone Money Transfer, which is the service we provide that allows you to make transactions according to the terms of this agreement. |
| “Vodafone Money Account” | your Vodafone Money Account that records the amount of Vodafone Money you have stored as an equivalent amount of Qatari Riyals in a separate account which we hold for you, as well as other information about how you use Vodafone Money Account. |
| “Vodafone Money Account balance” | the amount of Vodafone Money you have in your Vodafone Money Account at any given time. |
| “Vodafone Cash Outlet” | a retail outlet, store or space where you can load money into your Vodafone Money Account or withdraw money from your Vodafone Money Account in Qatari riyals. |
| “Vodafone Money Sign-Up Outlet” | a retail outlet, store or space where you can set up your Vodafone Money Account. |
| “Vodafone Money Merchant” | someone who accepts Vodafone Money as payment for goods and services. |
| “Website” | our website at www.vodafone.com.qa |
1. General
1.1 This agreement starts when you register for a Vodafone Money Account or activate a Vodafone Money Account on your equipment, whichever happens first.
1.2 You authorise us to act according to the instructions you give us about your Vodafone Money Account. We may refuse to process any instruction we receive from you if we think we have good reason to do so.
1.3 Vodafone Money Account’s regulated financial services are provided by Doha Bank L.L.C (Doha Bank). Doha Bank is licensed to provide Vodafone Money Account financial services and is regulated by the Qatar Central Bank.
1.4 This agreement is governed by Qatari law.
2. Vodafone Money Account services
2.1 A Vodafone Money Account will allow you to make the following financial transactions using your equipment.
2.1.1 VMT service, which includes:
2.1.2 Making Vodafone airtime purchases using your Vodafone Money.
2.1.3 Making cash deposits and withdrawals from Vodafone Cash Outlets.
2.1.4 Buying goods and services from Vodafone Money Merchants.
2.1.5 Loading cash onto your Vodafone Money Account directly.
2.2 Your Vodafone Money is not the same as your airtime – you cannot use your airtime as Vodafone Money to make a transaction.
2.3 We aim to give you access to the above-mentioned Vodafone Money Account services at all times. However, due to the nature of mobile technology, it is impossible to provide a fault-free service at all times.
3. Registering for a Vodafone Money Account
3.1 To register for a Vodafone Money Account you must:
3.1.1 be either a new or existing Vodafone Qatar customer;
3.1.2 be at least 18 years of age;
3.1.3 hold a valid Qatari identification card or Qatari expatriate identification card; and
3.1.4 have a Vodafone Money Account-enabled SIM card. If your SIM card is not Vodafone Money Account-enabled, you can swap it at any Vodafone store for one that is. (Vodafone Money Account-enabled means the software is embedded in the SIM card.)
3.2 You can register for a Vodafone Money Account at any Vodafone Money Sign-Up Outlet in the State of Qatar.
3.3 To register for a Vodafone Money Account, you must fill in the Vodafone Money Account application form and give us all the information we ask for on that form.
3.4 You acknowledge and agree that all information you have given on the Vodafone Money Account application form is true, complete and accurate.
3.5 If any of the information you give us changes, you must contact us and tell us about this as soon as possible.
3.6 We can refuse your application for a Vodafone Money Account for any reason. If we decide to refuse your application, we do not have to tell you why.
3.7 We can ask you for more information about your Vodafone Money Account at any time. If you do not give us this information, we can limit, suspend or end your Vodafone Money Account.
3.8 You acknowledge that you are the person entitled to the Vodafone Money in your Vodafone Money Account and that no other person has any legal right to it.
3.9 You may only have one Vodafone Money Account at any one time. You cannot have a joint Vodafone Money Account with another person. You cannot transfer your Vodafone Money Account to another person.
4. Using your Vodafone Money Account
4.1 Once you have successfully registered for a Vodafone Money Account, you can load cash onto your Vodafone Money Account when:
4.1.1 you deposit cash onto your Vodafone Money Account at any Vodafone Cash Outlet;
4.1.2 Vodafone Money is sent to your Vodafone Money Account from someone else (including payroll from your employer if your employer has signed up to use Vodafone Money Account for payroll services); or
4.1.3 authorising us to directly debit your bank account to load cash onto your Vodafone Money Account.
4.2 Once you have loaded cash onto your Vodafone Money Account, you will have a Vodafone Money Account balance and will be able to make transactions.
4.3 We will not pay any interest on any Vodafone Money held in your Vodafone Money Account.
4.4 You can make transactions by providing transfer instructions using your equipment, or at any Vodafone Cash Outlet or Vodafone Money Merchant.
4.5 To make a transaction, you will need to confirm your transfer instructions with your PIN.
4.6 If you do not have enough Vodafone Money in your Vodafone Money Account to cover the amount of Vodafone Money you want to send plus any transaction charges, the transaction will not take place. We will let you know by SMS. You do not have to pay any extra charges if your transaction is rejected because you do not have enough Vodafone Money in your Vodafone Money Account.
4.7 You cannot make a transaction if the value of the transaction is more than the transaction limits.
4.8 We may carry out appropriate security or identity checks when we receive your transfer instructions, and can refuse any transaction if these security or identity checks raise any concerns.
4.9 We will confirm all transactions successfully sent or received from your Vodafone Money Account by sending you an SMS with your new Vodafone Money Account balance.
4.10 We will give each transaction a unique receipt number to be included in the confirmation text we send you along with your updated Vodafone Money Account balance. We use this receipt number to track and identify all transactions carried out on your Vodafone Money Account.
4.11 We will assume our records of the transactions sent and received from your Vodafone Money Account are correct unless you can prove this is not the case.
4.12 We do not have to reverse any transfer if you make a mistake in your transfer instructions. You are responsible for giving us correct transfer instructions and for sorting out any disputes that might arise because you gave incorrect transfer instructions.
4.13 You can use your Vodafone Money Account while roaming (during travel abroad). However, you may have to pay other charges. You can get a list of charges from any Vodafone store or on the website.
5. When you are not allowed to use your Vodafone Money Account
5.1 You must not use your Vodafone Money Account or its available services in any way that:
5.1.1 is fraudulent or illegal, or that could be seen as being fraudulent or illegal, including activity relating to illegal drugs, firearms, obscene or pornographic material or gambling;
5.1.2 involves impersonating another person or company;
5.1.3 is false, misleading, deceptive or offensive;
5.1.4 negatively affects anyone else’s legal rights (including copyright, patent, trademark and other intellectual property rights);
5.1.5 creates legal liability for us;
5.1.6 involves using it to gain unauthorised access to someone else’s computer systems or network; or
5.1.7 could have a negative effect on our network or the Vodafone Money Account services.
6. Charges
6.1 You must pay all charges for using your Vodafone Money Account. You can get a list of charges from any Vodafone store or on the website.
6.2 We will automatically take charges out of your Vodafone Money Account at the same time as we process any transactions.
6.3 You can ask to see details of your transaction history from our call centre or at any Vodafone store. You will also be able to receive mini-statements by text. The mini-statements will contain the five most recent transactions including the amount, type and dates.
6.4 You must not allow anyone else to make transactions using your Vodafone Money Account. You will be responsible for any charges incurred by anyone else who uses your Vodafone Money Account to make a transaction.
7. Security
7.1 When you set up your Vodafone Money Account, you must choose a secret five-digit PIN which you will use to access your Vodafone Money Account and make transactions.
7.2 You are responsible for keeping your PIN secret. In particular, you must not:
7.2.1 tell anyone else what your PIN is;
7.2.2 keep a written record of your PIN;
7.2.3 choose a PIN that is easy to guess (for example, your birth date or phone number or an obvious combination of numbers such as 12345); and
7.2.4 let anyone else see your PIN when you enter it into your mobile device.
7.3 If you need to reset your PIN, you must visit a Vodafone store and show a copy of your valid Qatari identification card or Qatari expatriate identification card.
7.4 You must contact us straight away so we can block your account and SIM card if:
7.4.1 your SIM card is damaged, lost or stolen; or
7.4.2 anyone else finds out what your PIN is.
7.5 You will be responsible for all charges and transactions from your Vodafone Money Account up until the time we receive your notice. We will not be legally responsible for any claims about transactions made from your Vodafone Money Account before the time we receive notice from you.
8. Ending this agreement
8.1 You can ask us to end this agreement by contacting our customer care team on 111 from your Vodafone mobile or+974 77007111 internationally or from any landline.
8.2 We can end this agreement immediately if:
8.2.1 you have broken this agreement;
8.2.2 we have good reason to suspect that your account has been used in connection with any illegal activity;
8.2.3 your SIM card is no longer operational or is cancelled in line with our general terms and conditions; or
8.2.4 we cannot provide the services to you for any reason.
8.3 We will make reasonable attempts to tell you if we end this agreement.
8.4 The instructions of Qatar Central Bank will apply in terms of any funds left in your Vodafone Money Account after this agreement has been ended.
8.5 If your Vodafone Money Account has been ended in connection with suspected illegal activity:
8.5.1 we can suspend your access to any Vodafone Money in your Vodafone Money Account; and
8.5.2 we will take any action that we feel necessary or that may be needed under any relevant regulatory or law enforcement agency.
8.6 Unless we end this agreement due to suspected illegal activity, you will be able to use any Vodafone Money in your Vodafone Money Account by presenting your valid Qatari identification card or Qatari expatriate identification card at a Vodafone Cash Outlet. We will charge you a fee to recover any Vodafone Money from your Vodafone Money Account after we have ended this agreement.
8.7 We may charge you an account administration fee for any Vodafone Money left in your Vodafone Money Account after ending this agreement. You can get a list of charges from any Vodafone store or on the website.
8.8 If you have Vodafone Money in your Vodafone Money Account 10 years after this agreement has ended, and we have not been able to contact you to cash this in, we will transfer any funds to the relevant Qatari authorities.
9. Contacting each other
9.1 If you need to contact us for any reason about your Vodafone Money Account, you can visit our website or call us on 111 from your Vodafone mobile or +974 77007111 internationally or from any landline.
9.2 If we need to contact you personally, we will call or text you on the phone number linked to your Vodafone Money Account.
10. Your information
10.1 You agree that we can accept instructions from you over the phone without your written confirmation. If we do this, we will ask you a series of security questions to confirm your identity. You agree that we can change your Vodafone Money Account, or give out your Vodafone Money Account information based on those security questions being answered correctly.
10.2 We will keep the information you give us when you sign up for a Vodafone Money Account in line with our data privacy policy, which you can find on our website.
10.3 You agree that we may monitor or record how you use your Vodafone Money Account, including details of any transactions you have sent using your Vodafone Money Account, for quality-control and training purposes as well as preventing the unauthorised use of our telecommunications system or detecting and preventing crime.
10.4 You authorise us to pass your information along with information about how you use your Vodafone Money Account to our partner banks, any government, law-enforcement or regulatory organisations or anyone else if we need to do this to open or manage your Vodafone Money Account, or to prevent or detect crime.
10.5 We cannot guarantee the confidentiality of your communications over our network. For that reason, and for reasons beyond our control, there is a risk that your communications may be unlawfully intercepted. We will not be legally responsible if this happens.
11. Legal responsibility
11.1 Apart from any responsibility that we cannot legally exclude, we will not be legally responsible to you for any loss you may suffer by using your Vodafone Money Account, including losses arising from:
11.1.1 a mistake you have made in your transfer instructions;
11.1.2 any fraud committed by any other Vodafone Money Account customer;
11.1.3 any delays or losses resulting from a failure of the network of the Vodafone Money Account systems; and
11.1.4 our inability to provide the Vodafone Money Account services because of something outside our reasonable control.
11.2 You will be legally responsible for any consequences if you don’t keep to this agreement in any way.
12. Changing this agreement
12.1 We may change the charges or introduce new charges. If we increase our charges, we will give you at least 21 days’ notice in a way which we consider is reasonable, for example by sending you an SMS.
12.2 We may make changes to or withdraw the Vodafone Money Account services at any time. We can also make changes to or introduce new terms to this agreement at any time. If possible, we will give reasonable notice of these changes. The changes will apply when we publish details of them in a way which we consider is reasonable, for example by sending messages using the services.
12.3 By continuing to use the Vodafone Money Account services, you agree to these changes. If you are not happy with any of these changes, you do not have to continue to use your Vodafone Money Account.
